Innovation is not just about doing things differently — it’s about doing them smarter, faster, and better. At Distinct Productive Solutions (DPS), this belief is the foundation of everything we do. Our journey to becoming a national benchmark in productivity began with a challenge that had stumped many and ended with a prestigious Productivity Championship Award at the National Productivity Summit 2018.

The project is centered on enhancing resource utilization and operational efficiency in the manufacturing of critical components. This initiative specifically targets the production of the Bearing Bush, a vital component used in hydraulic gear pumps for agricultural automotives.
The Bearing Bush is an integral part of hydraulic gear pumps, with each pump requiring four pieces of this component. Given its widespread application, Bosch-Rexroth demands substantial volumes—approximately 2 million pieces per annum domestically and around 6 million pieces globally, culminating in a total requirement of about 8 million pieces annually. The high volume combined with low variety places significant pressure on manufacturers to maintain competitive pricing while ensuring consistent quality.

DPS took a bold step forward — instead of importing yet another machine, our in-house engineering and R&D team conceptualized, designed, and developed a completely indigenous machining system tailored for this very component.
Implementing energy-efficient technologies to minimize electricity usage during production.
Designing automated systems to reduce the need for manual labor, thereby lowering operational costs.
Creating compact manufacturing setups that require less floor space, allowing for more efficient factory layouts.
Utilizing advanced measurement technologies to ensure precision and consistency without relying on manual checks.
Streamlining processes to enhance output while reducing overall manufacturing expenses.
The success of this project was recognized at the National Productivity Summit held at Grand Chola, Chennai, in 2018. During the summit, the case study garnered the Productivity Championship Award – 2018 in the SME category, highlighting its significant contributions to enhancing productivity within the manufacturing sector. This recognition underscores the project’s impact not only on Bosch-Rexroth’s supply chain but also on the broader industry, showcasing how innovative manufacturing solutions can lead to substantial improvements in efficiency and competitiveness.
This case study exemplifies the potential for innovation in manufacturing processes, particularly in industries facing price sensitivity and high precision demands. What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that our solution not only replaced the SPMs used in India but also proved superior to systems used in Bosch plants across Germany and Brazil, countries known for their engineering prowess.
Our journey reinforces a powerful message — you don’t always need to look outside for solutions. Sometimes, the best answers come from within — from daring to reimagine what’s possible and being willing to invest in innovation that serves both business objectives and industry evolution.
